if you ask me, that means there's a way to break this place wide open with a handful of batteries and wires. i've used some pretty high tech equipment but i don't really know how to rig up anything new... do you?
Sorry. That was the Technology Department's division, not mine. I worked more in keeping the District I worked in safe.
( so to... say. and wherever her corp asked her to go, under contract. )
Doubtlessly there's someone here who fits the bill, however! I wouldn't waste my time with anyone from the same place I am, they're all fighters not workers, though No, no, never mind, he wouldn't know anything about this either.
P.S. It's returned an answer. We aren't allowed outside city limits for our safety and peace of mind. What a riot.
[keeping it safe... h..how does she do that......]
i'll find someone who knows what they're doing, i guess. there's [uhhh the anon hackerman guy greg knows, but greg said don't tell kromer about that stuff, eek,] guys who pilot giant robots back home around here, maybe they know. you'd have to repair a big robot sometimes, so that's close to drones...
peace of mind, what the hell... well what do you think, are they bullshitting us or is it really, ultra messed up out there?
( too bad for gregor because the anon hackerman guy is texting kromer a few days after this to ask about getting her kiosk information for his info haul. fucking checkmate my dude.
she'll leave the tech contacting to him then, thanks dude... )
This city might not be so dissimilar from the one I come from. The City is divided into twenty-six Districts. Each of these has a Nest, which is protected by a Wing—think of this as the inner city, such as where we presumably are now, and the Wing as our oh-so-gracious-whomever keeping us from going out-of-bounds. Outside of the Nest are the Backstreets of the District, where those with less fortunate lives stay, at the mercy of gangs and unscrupulous means of living. Beyond our fair City are the Ruins, where it's said magic exists, and just beyond that are the Outskirts, which is an incredibly dangerous place few people go to willing and even fewer people return from. I have little faith in this city, so it's more likely bullshit, but who knows? Maybe it is "really, ultra messed up" out there.
[rip greg, he tried... junpei will think about tracking down the gundam guys, sometime. anyway, oh no, now he has to learn more about this awful city—although it's weirdly the most sanitized thing he's heard about it so far? city people, take note, this is way more palatable!!]
uh, so why is it bird themed?
maybe that's not important. it could be that their last experiment with this place went wrong and they pulled us in here before they fixed everything up. or it's just bullshit.
and wait, why would magic only exist outside your city? is it like......inside a wall or something?
( thanks for dropping the question of "why is it bird-themed" because the answer is "it just is, i guess". )
There's checkpoints and fences that divide Nests and Backstreets, so there might be something similar in place. I wouldn't know for sure. My work never takes me out that way.
[oh........ dystopian. he'd rather be stranded in the desert again.]
well, we definitely don't have that here. not sure about magic, but if we had wizards or something, they'd have started blowing stuff up with runes already. i think.
[that's just what wizards are like, he's seen movies.]
( wow the self-awareness on this guy is off the charts!!!!! she likes that in a man. )
And it's rare to see in a city like mine, where even each Wing's Singularities are a product of human innovation and science, so we'll call ourselves even.
( ... )
Though you'd probably consider some of the things they can do "magical".
K Corp's Singularity is used produce medicine that heals injuries, physical and mental, quickly. It's quite a godsend for those who regularly traverse dangerous terrain, though they're too pricey for ordinary folk to get their hands on. I'd wager, anyway. I'm sure if you're part of their Wing, you get access to them no problem.
( this is a nice one. )
W Corp came into possession of a teleportation technology sometime ago too, if I'm remembering my history right. They use it to operate their WARP trains, which gets you anywhere in the City in ten seconds flat. No harm, no foul. Isn't that nice?
healthcare and public transit are pretty magical ideas yeah.
[ok zoomer. he's sure there's some strange and mystical vore bus-level backstory associated with these, because why wouldn't there be-!! but does he want to know, hmm...]
why is it like that. WARP. does it stand for something? does it even need to? it sounds pretty obvious to me...
( It's just that N Corp hasn't needed W Corp's technology... yet. )
If you lose an arm, K Corp's technology will regrow it in no time flat. If you want to get from one end of the City to the other, you can take a WARP train, and after waiting a mere ten seconds you can step out and be at your destination. Color me impressed if this type of thing is more common than any of us thought, though. They're considered extremely important and life-changing technologies where I'm from, hence "Singularity".
( from the term "technological singularity" naturally. )
[junpei, who has seen movies, knows that singularities are usually not good, so that seems like a weird brag! but he was wrong about the runes (allegedly), so who can say.]
well, we're talking about magical, not common. i mean, if we were all wizards, magic would still be magical, right?

????]
yeah that's true. if we can get out of here it's not like we have to hang around shaking hands or whatever.
[--well, he's not going to question a perfectly normal and reasonable statement like "work together," soooo...]
you mean like remote controlled flying drones? maybe they're in some electronics store that hasn't generously opened up yet.

Incredible that they'd have pleasure shops open but not something as simple and "entertainment-worthy" as electronics, isn't it.

i don't know, those don't sound that magical to me.

By some definition, but the word "magical" inspires some "wonderment", doesn't it? Like a child's fairy-tale about wishing on stars.
( magic that doesn't feel magical... )
no subject
if you're into second-dictionary-entry meanings, sure. semantically, magic is super cool and awesome all the time, even for wizards. even with runes.
but we don't have those where i'm from, anyway. just normal trains and normal bandages. i've seen alien pods, though.
